Getting Around Wichita is Easy and Affordable

A highlight of visiting Wichita is the convenience of getting to and around the city.

Downtown is compact and easy to navigate, with a variety of car-based transportation options as well as public transportation for those who are traveling without cars.

Whether you’re trying to figure out how to get to your hotel in Wichita, which car rentals to use, or what public transit options there are, this is your guide to getting around our city.

The outside of the Eisenhower National Airport

Airport & Flights

With nonstop flights from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) to 17  destinations around the US (including 2 in Chicago and 2 more in Arizona), our airport is a gateway to the rest of the country. The main carriers that fly in and out of Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport are Delta, American Airlines, Southwest, Allegiant Air, and Alaska Airlines.

Once you’ve flown into ICT, you’re only a 10-minute (15 tops in heavy traffic)  drive from downtown with normal traffic conditions (or up to 25 minutes during rush hour), so it’s easy to get wherever you need to go, whether you have a Wichita car rental or are using public transportation.

If you’re a resident flying in and out of the airport, use the park and ride lot, with a free shuttle service between the lot and the airport for convenience. Many local hotels offer free shuttles from the airport, and rideshare services pick up right outside the terminal. There are also shuttles between the terminal and the airport’s car rental offices.

Rental Cars & Rideshare

If you’re looking for a Wichita car rental, there are plenty of convenient options, with pickup directly at the airport or in town. The rental car companies have offices at Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and more, some with multiple locations in the city. If you’re renting a car, parking downtown is widely available and often free or metered.

Uber and Lyft both operate throughout Wichita, and are available at the airport and beyond. Expect to pay around $20-$30 to go from ICT to downtown with a rideshare service.

The Q-Line is Wheelchair Accessible

Getting Around Without a Car

No car? No problem. There are lots of convenient ways to get around. Like the Q-Line, free transportation in downtown Wichita, which runs through the center of the city in neighborhoods like Delano, Downtown, Old Town, Douglas Design and others. The trolley is available Monday through Thursday: 5 to 10 pm once an hour, 5 to 10 pm Fridays every 20 minutes, and between 11 am to midnight on Saturdays every 20 minutes.

There are also the Wichita Transit Services, with upwards of 15 different routes throughout the city, covering all major parts of the city. Use Transit App or Google Maps to get around or for real-time bus tracking.

Access the Bike Share ICT through the Movatic app to pedal around Wichita. You can visit a Bike Share station around the city and rent a bicycle easily, leaving it at your destination. You can also walk along Old Town and Douglas Avenue, two particularly pedestrian-friendly parts of the city you won’t need a vehicle to get around.

Accessible Transit

If you have limited mobility or are disabled, there are accessible transportation options for you here. There is Wichita Transit’s paratransit service, and the Q-Line is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair-accessible Ubers or Lyfts may be limited and more difficult to come by, so if that is what you need, book in advance.

With lots of options for transportation, Wichita is a convenient place to get around. Come see for yourself—plan your visit today

Wichita is three hours southwest of Kansas City, two and a half hours north of Oklahoma City and six hours north of Dallas. Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport is the largest airport in the state and has nonstop service from more than 13 U.S. cities (two are seasonal) on seven major airlines.

Getting around Wichita is easy and convenient. Downtown is a quick 10-minute drive from Eisenhower National Airport and commute times across the city are some of the best in the country. Wichita offers public transportation, rental cars, taxi, limo, private car and charter bus services. Hope on the free Wichita Q-Line for easy travel downtown, or try Bike Share ICT or the city's electric scooters.
