Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Fest
Don’t miss this finger-licking good time as barbecue is celebrated as its own food group at the Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Fest.
Formerly known as the Derby BBQ Festival, Derby's largest event underwent a name and logo change in 2019 to reflect the addition of a music festival in celebration of Derby’s 150th anniversary. The three-day food and music event features the Kansas City BBQ Society Cook-off, Backyard BBQ Cook-Off, People’s Choice Contest and tons of fun, family-friendly events just south of Wichita.
The festival is free to attend. Patrons can participate in the People's Choice Contest by purchasing a barbecue tasting kit for $5 each, including eight servings of competition-quality pulled pork.
All proceeds benefit the McConnell Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center.
