In 2002, the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation was formed to cultivate opportunities that revitalize and enhance Wichita’s core. Now operating as Downtown Wichita, the organization has spearheaded place-making projects like Alley Doors, Naftzger Park and Gallery Alley. You’ll also find a variety of bronze sculptures and chrome artwork throughout the area.
The area is easy to navigate, whether you want to walk, ride a bike or an electric scooter or utilize the free, all-electric Q-Line. If you decide to walk, discover a variety of interesting tidbits about Wichita's history and see new, modern additions to the city's core through the Wichita Public Library’s PocketSights app, which allows users to explore Wichita's history with the Wichita History Walk. After you download the app, you can explore the historical sites as you stroll along Douglas Avenue. The app will send alerts about sites that have historic significance, including images and a story with audio narration.
